Street children beat odds and pass with flying colours in Class 12 examinations
For S. Gowri, studying meant sitting amid the blaring traffic, street lights as the only source of light, and no space to call her own. But she prepared diligently and passed with flying colours in her Class 12 public examination. So have her six friends, all first-generation learners and residing on the streets.
A resident of MUC Street at Parrys, Gowri describes school as a place of safety. “All my teachers and principal help me out, from studies to fees. My father is a rickshaw driver, and mother is a flower seller. Their income is only enough to support my two brothers who gave up studies. They couldn’t support me, so my teachers did,” she said.
